Globalisation in the media landscape has really help boost the media efficiency of work, which making access to information or news item very easy.

In the economical aspect, Global media has made access to weak and unimpactful information making a country's economy not grow as suppose and also Breed corruption and those who are corrupt to be seen.
It also strengthens democracy In an economy such Ghana and other African who practise democracy to interact with their audience and engaging them in decisions making.Making communication a two way. Which is the sender and the receiver then feedback which shows how well decoded it is.

In a nutshell, Global media has really made lots of changes in economies such has Ghana etc. And making the flow of communication easy and interactive.

The study of the globe has been of importance in helping to know what other countries or nations believe in thereby making it easy for other countries to learn and adjust to some of these beliefs which in the end has brought development to them. The media has also played an important role in bringing about these changes even though it has also been responsible to the rapid spread of inappropriate content which has led to corrupt morals.

Media globalization in my view only re-consolidates the already existing dominance by multinational media companies.

While new media technologies may provide an equal playing field for all media players, money is at the heart of these technologies when it comes to who can afford these technologies.

Secondly, the credibility of traditional media organizations influence followership on social media hence we may also argue that the level playing field theory may not be as strong.

In all these, while new media technologies may give all media organizations an opportunity to reach out to millions, it is clear that factors which influence traditional media success replicate or influence new media followership ,viewership or listenership.

The consequences are evident.

The media has played a vital role in globalization. Likewise globalization has played a major role in media advancement. The media we see globally today is as a result of the global standards in the world around. For me, I believe the media has the opportunity to set standards locally in order to be significant in that jurisdiction.

Also it has lead to an increase in citizen journalism and this keeps degrading the standards of journalism

Globalization or neo-colonization as I would like to put it, is the same as colonization. This time it is more of mental colonization or slavery because it exists more of words than reality. The media is overloaded with information that are not relevant to helping build the smaller economies as promoted by the same media that is owned by the western powers. The owners of natural resources now be the sufferers all in the name of globalization. Economic globalization is only sustained by exploitation of African continent of their resources and constant promotion of wars, usually the divide and rule tactics. We will be talking of real globalization only when the African continent can build walls around its resources and now determine how much value is put on their resources. I hope that courses like this will help stimulate understanding and provoke revolution in future. Africa has to rise to the occasion now.

Without the slightest doubt, globalization has made a big impact on the media. Although many media outlets have made immense profits out of this, many have also made huge losses most of them being local and old media outlets as many now prefer new media to newspapers.

Again, due to globalization, there has been an invasion of different cultures that either have negative or positive impacts (the negatives override the positives). As a result of this, many have lost their sense of cultural belonging as they tend to copy what is being viewed, read or listened to.

Globalization to an extent has promoted citizen journalism in other words, freedom of expression/speech. Due to the introduction of social media, everyone has the chance to post whatever information they acquire without necessarily applying the journalistic principles and this demeans the professionalism of journalism. The question now is how can globalization's impact on the media be managed to benefit all?

The introduction of newspapers, magazine, internet and TV has immensely helped to spread information and has helped people to come together from all over the world. However this impact has its own disadvantages, its advantages are much more.

In my opinion the impact of globalization on media has its own advantages and disadvantages but however the advantages are much more than the disadvantages. globalization has led to opening up of people mind towards not just the walls within which they stay but also be aware of what’s happening around the world. Media and communication remain the biggest tool for transmitting the ideas, ideals and philosophic of globalization. From the use of propaganda to create class and race systems, to the creation of a global system of subjugation and geopolitical imbalances, the media, through technology, has been extremely important.

This subjugation has been done through the churning out of content that continuously represent the West as saviours and superiors to those of the Black race. Their mega media firms, continue to drown out the African narrative through both reportage and their financial muscle.

The tale of the jungle, in view of our inadequate resources, is certainly being told to glorify the hunter, simply because the jungle does not possess the wherewithal and technological prowess to rival that of the hunter.

Until Africans, especially media professionals, begin to conspire through partnerships toward building an African media empire, this will sadly continue.

It is pitiful, indeed.

The Creative Philosopher said...

The 'strong taste for foreign goods' phenomenon, which has been cited as a major reason for the collapse and inability of local firms to compete favourably with their foreign counterparts is mainly as a direct result of globalization.

Through the spread of consumerism, the media is used to advertise more foreign goods at the expense of indigenous ones because foreign firms can pay huge money.

Drinks, tobacco, perfume, and even sex enhancement drugs, have clouded the airwaves. The least said about social media, the better. Foreign content is killing our creative media space (movies). Telenovela and American soap operas, are the new 'ish'.

The power of global media, has changed and is till changing our behaviours, tastes, and everything we hold dear - our identity.

This strong tasted has increased our quantum of imports and shrunk our exports – it has created an economic imbalance. We import everything, including tooth pick. No wonder our Cedi is galloping.

If all we can do is copy, and not exchange what we have for something better, then we are in trouble.

Globalization is still globalizing us - it is stealing our identity.

Are we watching, or we are simply, looking?

The media is obviously one of the leading sectors facilitating globalization as a whole. The global media has become a very powerful agent in positive transformation happening all over the world even though this comes at a price.

The global media has made it possible for individuals from different locations to come together to share ideas as well as to produce and consume information from all around the globe, due to the emergence of the internet. This has provided a field for citizen journalists to play an active role in the process of reporting and disseminating information. It has again helped to create a global experience or feeling without necessarily travelling or being at these places since there are lots of information about lifestyles, places and cultures on the internet.

However, as a result of less censorship or restriction on this platform, lots of fake news with misleading headlines are generated by these citizen journalists which sometimes causes fear and panic in the society and gradually causing ethical standards to fall. Also, children and young adults are exposed to topics which are deemed contrary to the values and morals of their society hence the need for a strict regulation of the media will be in the interest of the public since whatever the media puts out there is consumed by audiences which in turn influences them either positively or negatively.

I sometimes wonder how Africa can catch-up. The media should have been the platform to showcase what we have and place some value on it. But sadly, get rich quick mentality has pushed individuals with especially broadcast licenses to opt for foreign contents like “Mexican soaps”. They then force to localize it by panel discussions and even vox pops.
Football is also imported with advertising money from Ghana and most African countries. EPL, Champions League, La Liga, etc. Micheal Essien gets his personal cash as a Ghanaian but more of his kind in the European leagues meant our media had to switch completely to the EPL. And the rest why? Mikel Obi joins and Nigeria went gay. Apart from importing goods from China at a cost to the nation, we are also paying Europeans hard currencies to watch their football. How sad.
As Giddens (1991) would put it “Globalisation is… linking distant localities in such a way that local happenings are formed as a result of events that occur many miles away and vice versa”. But has Africa as a continent formed anything good for its own good by its links to distant localities?
The world is already connected, there is a vast global market; but only individuals are befitting from this integration because of capitalism. And arguably we cannot go back to communism or socialism so the best we can do is to look within ourselves and see what can work and this can only me successful with the full backing of the globalized media.
But my problem is the concept of ‘globalisation’ is an age-old thing though there are some suggestions that actual planned or orchestrated integration of the world in terms of its economy as well as people and cultures may have started in the 1970’s with the idea of a “global village”. But African history seems to be connected to everything negative or the bad side of what should have benefited all. Talk of trans-Atlantic slave trade and now what? capital flight…? Before then the west was taking the labour and now they are taking the capital needed to be re-injected into the African economy.
All the pan-african news channels established to tell the African story are still struggling, I cannot even readily recall their brands….rather, BBC, DW, CNN are doing what they think is right for us. Do we thank them? When would we close the gap? My short comment folks.

Generally speaking, globalization has made possible adequate and timely processing and dissemination of information. Media men and women are able to share notes across continents and countries before going public and again it has become possible for citizens to know what is happening in other countries, which was not the case when media was not available.

Earlier to communicate, people use to write letters send them through post or through other mediums. No city had any idea of what was going on in their neighboring city. The press media was the first breakthrough. The beginning of the Press media was seen after the information revolution. The press became an active participant in the tasks of promoting, projecting, and supporting the process. Globalization has assisted in networking among journalists; and these facilities have revolutionized news, printing, editing and reportage.

Also the coming of TV and Radio made it even easy for those who could not read or write to watch and listen so they could follow the issues being reported.

Today we had a short test and I was so disorganised I did not pay particular attention to rule number one in examinations, and that is read the question and understand what is demanded. I therefore want to share how I understood the question without necessarily putting the syntax of the question here.
The question simply asked to discuss three views (there are more than three) put forward by the proponents of globalization.

First who is a proponent? Let's get the distinction between a proponent and an opponent. Proponent argues for and an opponent argues against. So while some sees the benefits (proponents) others see the bad (opponents) of globalization. So the question is asking you to discuss the views of those who think globalization is good.

To answer this we can focus on the dimensions of globalization: trade, finance, aid, knowledge, and migration. Any of these can aid in your answer.
For example, proponents of globalization belief that free markets and limited government interference will lead to creation of jobs, higher living conditions, competition which will result in lower prices and quality goods and services. They believe globalization will result in international trade, specialization in specific goods and services which the nation states have competitive advantage.
Another view is that globalization has led to the promotion of information exchange, technological exchange and quality of education.
Another view is that globalization has led to the dismantling of autocratic regimes and replaced it with democracy.
Another view is that globalization has led to increase in foreign direct investment and cross-border investment which enables poor economies to develop.

The concept of globalization has arguably been said to benefit no party at the expense of another. Yes, arguably so. Considering post independent Africa and how we have adopted governance systems such at the parliamentary and presidential systems; embracing democracy among other western governance features, I believe Africa used to have a system that worked for us well. Yes we highly practiced the chieftaincy system where we ruled through kings and queens. Now that has been modified as the monarchial system. Factually, the former had councils of elders and modes of enstooling and enkinning. Wasn't that the "democracy" now? Aside the paramount chief there were sub chiefs. Now we have a president and regional ministers and in some places; governors. Do you see any striking difference?
Some schools of thought argue globalization is for the greater good and that no one controls it, therefore not benefiting one more than another. I however, believe the concept of globalization has string pullers and a faction it benefits more.

Globalisation (homogenisation), in my opinion, is not making the world the same. If people are sharing the same culture at a material time does make them the same because the moment one steps out of that time and ‘splace’, that person goes back his/her original culture. If the converse is true, then we can say globalisation is making us the same. For instance, the fact that a full blooded Ewe eats ‘kenkey’ or speaks Ga does not make him a Ga. But if we look at the main ingredient which corn in this case, it is widely used by many ethnic groups in Ghana and on that score, we can say we are the same.
Heterogenisation, on the other hand, which is about multi-directional spread of culture, politics, economic, etc does not seem to benefit the third world countries that much due to culture imperialism whose main driving force is the media. The third world countries cannot penetrate the first world countries with their culture because their media do not travel far. So we seem to be consuming more of the western culture usually propagated by these western media conglomerates such as BBC, CNN.

The media should be studied in the context of globalisation because the media is able to play an important role in globalisation by sharing information that propagates culture and technology among others from different parts of the world giving us a sense of interconnectedness. Media even shapes globalisation by creating and sharing standards of doing things such as what to include in media reporting, style of governance etc.
